CTE is based at Edinburgh’s Napier University and is a focus for providing education, training, research and consultancy in the use of timber in construction.
CTE encourages and supports the various uses of timber knowledge and skills in the UK workforce, with the particular goal of widening the use for load bearing elements. Timber is a versatile, aesthetic and environmentally sustainable material.
CTE is actively engaged in raising the level of timber knowledge and skills level in the UK workforce. It provides high-level training to building professionals in the use of timber and the implementation of European standards. It improves the knowledge of timber engineering through provision of a range of first-degree and post-graduate courses and dissemination of teaching materials. Both consultancy and research (strategic and applied) are other key features of CTE (e.g. knowledge transfer, testing, product development, resource optimisation) and commonly projects involve industry or private sector partners.Key Benefits

IP Status
The University and the CTE has an extensive patent portfolio and many years of know-how built-up from many programmes. The University would be willing to enable the transfer of this extensive knowledge to interested parties on terms agreed ahead of any collaborative programme.
