In-Situ Heavy Metal Sensor for Contaminated Land
The technology developed is an electrochemical instrument capable of gathering real-time quantitative data on a range of heavy metal contaminants. The instrument can be used on site for analysing contaminated land or water. It has been designed to determine the oxidation state of metal which is a measure of the metal's toxicity. Accurate results are generated without the need for adjustment of sample pH. The main benefit of this device is that it has been designed as a hand held portable device so to increase its applicability on-site, it has embedded hardware and software capable of automatic detection and identification of a range of heavy metals and it can measure the concentration of heavy metal in any given sample. A graphic display has been included to enable friendly operation and reduce the need for skilled personnel.Key Benefits
- Reports metal oxidation state and therefore toxicity
- No requirement to adjust sample pH
- Suitable for soil and water analysis
- No consumables other than sample vial
- Built-in GPS record of sample location
- Suitable for semi-skilled personnel
- Sensor is capable of detecting lead, cadmium, zinc, copper, mercury and nickel
